GRANITE QUARRY — Authorities said a juvenile was shot with a stun gun Wednesday after he lunged and shoved Granite Quarry Police Officer Richard Tester. And the juvenile’s mother was arrested after pushing another officer and trying to kick another one.
A report from the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office said that a juvenile called 911 Wednesday night because his parents, Joseph and Karyn Patrick, were intoxicated and fighting.
When an officer arrived to 1239 S. Main St. in Granite Quarry, he was met at the patio door by Joseph and Karyn Patrick, but then their 14-year-old son joined them, with a semi-automatic weapon tucked into his pants pocket.
The officer asked the son repeatedly to remove the gun, but he refused, so the officer called for additional units.
Authorities said Joseph Patrick went back inside, leaving his son and wife, and the son finally removed his weapon when a deputy with the Sheriff’s Office arrived — one he knew.
At some point, Karyn Patrick, 44, began cursing and then pushed an officer, the report said. As Karyn Patrick was being arrested, her son lunged at and shoved Officer Tester. Tester used a stun gun on the juvenile and he fell to the floor of the deck, the report said.
Karyn Patrick, while restrained by another officer, repeatedly tried to kick Tester in the upper leg, but was eventually placed in a patrol car, the report said.
Patrick and her son were both taken to the magistrate’s office. The son was given a juvenile referral while Karyn Patrick was charged with assault on a law enforcement officer and given a $500 secured bond.
