With a few clicks of the mouse, West Rowan High Schoolís band could receive a $25,000 grant to purchase new instruments.
The school is a finalist in the Pepsi ěRefresh Everythingî grant project, but the students need help to win.
Band director Daniel Trivette says lending a hand is easy.
ěOnce a day, go to the grant website (www.refresheverything.com/west-rowan-band#) and click ëvote for this ideaí or log in and vote via Facebook,î he said in an email to the Post. ěIf it doesnít automatically take you to our grant, just search for West Rowan and it will pop up.î
Trivette said the band has also partnered with two other groups to ěpoolî their votes. He said people can vote for the Salisbury Symphonyís grant at www. refresheverything.com/violins-violas-and-cellos-oh-my and the Wakefield High School bandís grant at www.refresheverything.com/ wakefieldhsuniforms.
Votes can also be sent by texting 105973 to Pepsi for West Rowan, 105803 for the Salisbury Symphony and 105925 for Wakefield.
Pepsi, Diet Pepsi and Pepsi MAX products also contain ěpower voteî codes.
ěYou may get 5, 10, 15, 25 or even 100 ëpower votesí that can be applied to our project,î Trivette said.
Voting will run until the end of this month.
Trivette said if West Rowan wins it plans to use the money to buy four french horns, two bass clarinets, one alto saxophone, one baritone saxophone and three timpanis.
ěThese are all instruments that are in dire need of replacement and most of them cost as much or much than our entire annual budget from the county and state,î he said. ěWe may never have the funds to replace these instruments without this grant.
ěPlease help us out.î
