Rowan County is under a severe thunderstorm watch until 11 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.
The storms moving through will have the potential to become severe, and could produce large hail, damaging wind gusts and possibly even a tornado, the weather service said.
Cabarrus, Davidson, Davie, Iredell and Stanly counties are also under the watch.
