Fundraisers this weekend for Relay for Life

Salisbury — The main Rowan County Relay for Life event is only eight days away, but teams are still working toward their goal.
Relay For Life is a fun-filled overnight event May 13 designed to celebrate survivorship and raise money for research and programs of the American Cancer Society.
There are several activities planned:
• Faith Cruisers 5th Annual Relay For Life Car Show was postponed until 9 a.m. Saturday.
Bring your car, motorcycle or truck to Faith Legion Park for display.
Registration is $20 and each entry includes a vote in the judging. There will be food, drawings and entertainment while attendees can view the cars until 2 p.m.

• If your car is not ready for a judged show, clean it up at Team Life’s Car Wash and Bake Sale at Gerry Wood Kia, at 525 S. Jake Alexander Blvd, Salisbury on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Car washes and baked goods are available for free-will donations.

• Enjoy lunch and some friendly competition at a Cornhole Tournament to Fight Cancer hosted by BJ & Friends. Donation is $20 per player which includes food and play.
Sign in begins at 11 a.m. Saturday with partner draw and tournament to start about 11:30 a.m. Format is double elimination with a blind draw partner.

• Bring a chair or blanket Saturday to Blue Waters Pool, located at 6930 Faith Road, Salisbury and listen to local musicians entertain you from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Music Festival for Cancer Awareness event. The pool will be closed, but along with music there will be food, games and goods for donations.
Scheduled performers include Handful of Dave, Jeremy Vess, Chelsea Childers, Andrew Hodges, Michael Graham and Will Harrell. Special guests include Miss Teen Rowan County Elizabeth Safrit; Miss Rowan County Outstanding Teen Kristalyn Gill and other youth queens.
• Rockwell Rural Volunteer Fire Department, located at 320 Link St., Rockwell, will share proceeds of a yard sale with Relay For Life on Saturday beginning at 8 a.m. with participation of Copart, Inc. of China Grove.
Go for breakfast and shop for a cure for cancer.

• After the Relay is over, round out the weekend at Las Vegas Night for Relay For Life May 14 at AMVETS Post 845, located at 427 Link St., Rockwell.
The fun begins at 6:30 p.m. with an auction preview, cocktails and hors d’oeuvres and with Las Vegas play from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Donation is $25 per couple ($500 play money, one cocktail and hors d’oeuvres) or $15 single ($250 play money, one cocktail and hors d’oeuvres). The auction begins at 9 p.m.

During the Relay for Life event, teams of people gather at schools, fairgrounds, or parks and take turns walking or running laps. Each team tries to keep at least one team member on the track at all times.
