BOILING SPRINGS — Gardner-Webb University has named Dr. A. Douglas Eury, former North Rowan High School principal, as dean of the School of Education. Eury replaces Dr. Caroll Smith, who is returning to full-time teaching.
Eury and his wife, Janet, are members of First Methodist Church in Spencer. He was principal at North Rowan High School from 1990 until 1998.
Eury assumes the deanship after serving 11 years as a professor of education at Gardner-Webb. He holds his bachelor’s degree from Appalachian State University, his master’s degree in education from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and his education specialist and doctorate in education degrees from Appalachian State. “We are grateful to Dr. Eury for his willingness to take on this new role, which is so critical in light of the major changes under way in the North Carolina public education system,” said Gardner-Webb Provost Dr. Ben Leslie.
Eury also serves as director of doctoral studies in educational administration as well as curriculum and instruction.
