The Spencer Community Appearance Commission is hosting Spencer’s second annual Arbor Day Celebration Saturday from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
Event chair Beth Nance spearheaded the event last year.
“It turned out so fantastic,” she said.
The free family celebration will take place at Spencer’s 8th Street Ballpark.
There will be special appearances from the North Rowan Show Choir, performing at noon, as well as the Easter Bunny and several animals from the Dan Nicholas Park Nature Center.
Highlights include live music, food, educational, business and government booths and children’s activities, including a Moonbounce, courtesy of TeamBounce, facepainting, games and crafts.
There will also be free popcorn, games, tree saplings, Geocaching (treasure hunting with your GPS) and more.
There will be crafts for the kids, including a pine cone birdfeeder project done by local Cub Scout Troop 349.
Bluebird expert and author Pamela Kirby will be on hand, as will bonsai artist Rusty Harris.
There will be booths representing 4-H, and Beekeepers of Rowan County. Also participating will be Center for the Environment, Delores’ Handmade Goodies, Faithful Friends, the Family Crisis Council, Gracie’s Goodies, the Humane Society, I Want It All Antiques, The NC Bluebird Society, the Master Gardeners, North Hills Christian School, North Rowan Alumni Association, Pampered Chef, Photography 1849, Avon, Silpada Jewelry, Spencer Fire Department, Spencer Woman’s Club, Sports Crafts, SunTrust, Team Bounce, Window Glass Artists and many other craft and art vendors
In addition to crafts and games, kids will have an opportunity to explore an antique fire-truck from the North Carolina Transportation Museum and a police car sponsored by Spencer Police Department.
In celebration of Arbor Day, the Spencer Community Appearance Commission will plant two crape myrtle trees at the ballpark. Spencer is working toward becoming a Tree City USA, says event chair Beth Nance, and the Arbor Day celebration helps to support that goal.
Downtown Spencer stores will be open Saturday with Easter specials.
