Prep Golf: East Rowan wins battle, loses war in NPC title match

SALISBURY ó Mason Preslar did all he could to bring East Rowan a golf championship Wednesday at McCanless. The Mustang shot a 71 to win medalist honors as East won the tournament over first-place Statesville 309-311.
Just one thing. East came into the match trailing the Greyhounds by three.
So in the end, East Rowan won the battle but lost the war.
The scores going into yesterday were 1,119-1,116 in favor of Statesville.
The Mustangs beat Statesville to win the tournament ó by two shots 309-311.
Thus, Statesville takes the NPC title into the regionals. The final season score was Statesville 1,426, East Rowan 1,427.
Mason Preslar did all he could. He shot a 71 to lead East. Connor Lowman and James Lohr added 79s, Jared Hough and Preston Rogers had 80s and Weston Rogers shot an 83.
Carson placed third Wednesday behind Matt Yatesí 76.
The East-Statesville battle wasnít the only one being watched. South Rowan and West Rowan each came into the final match with 1,236 strokes. Led by Josh Lowderís 81, the Raiders outscored West 339-340 to take sole possession on fourth place.
James DeCoster and Jake Kennedy led West with 76s.
