KANNAPOLIS (AP) — A woman who worked at a day care center in Kannapolis has been charged with assaulting some of the children.
Kannapolis police on Thursday charged Whitney Belk with five counts of assaulting children.
Police say the assaults occurred in recent weeks at the Kids Korner Child Development Center.
Officers say they were alerted by complaining parents. Investigators say Belk was seen on day care surveillance video mistreating five different children.
The day care center’s administrator, Danielle Mauldin, told WSOC-TV she checked the video and fired Belk. Mauldin says the day care has fully cooperated with investigators.
The staff met with parents about the incident Thursday.
It was unclear if Belk has a lawyer.
