Celebrate Earth Day in Downtown Salisbury during Salisbury’s sixth annual Earth Night Out tomorrow, Friday, April 15. From 5-9 p.m., Historic Downtown Salisbury will teem with music and entertainment.
The Brubakers, a local favorite, will entertain with their unique blend of pop, rock, R&B and fusion laid on a jazz foundation. The music begins at 6 p.m. in the East Fisher Street entertainment district.
Other live entertainment will include Little Johnny Trailer Trash at The Blue Vine, Grace 4 U at K-Dee’s Jewelers, Marte and Friends at Okey Dokey & Co., Sue McHugh at Salisbury Wine Shop, and the North Rowan High School Show Choir in front of Salisbury Square Antiques (performances at 6:30 and 7:30 p.m.).
Downtown shops will be open late and will offer earth-themed treats, from Green Day Punch and Trash Mix to Mother Earth Sundaes and other kinds of goodies. Earth Night Out also offers family and environmentally friendly activities while offering ideas to make every day Earth Day. Various environmental organizations will be set up around downtown to offer information on how you can care for the Earth.
In other activities, Kalima Tribal Belly dance hosts dancing and drumming at 7 p.m. on Easy Street behind the Waterworks Visual Arts Center. Bring a drum, tambourine, rattles, shakers, clapping hands, and dancing feet. Some loaner drums and shakers will be available. Children are welcome with supervision.
The Salisbury Symphony Musical Petting Zone allows children — and adults — to touch and play an instrument; kids can make-your-own tie dye at $5-15 per item; and at the Visitors Center at 204 E. Innes St. there will be live music by Mike Strauss, food, magic and balloon art by Marc Gabriel, the Easter Bunny, and the Haunted Trolley Tour at 8 p.m.
In addition, Wacky Doo the Clown will be on hand to create his signature balloon hats, the popular Classic Car Show will be in the Farmers Market lot on South Main Street, and the Downtown Ghost Walks are again in session (visit www.SalisburyGhostWalk.com for spooky details). Free trolley rides can take you from one activity to another, carriage rides will be available and kids will find things to do all over Downtown.

Saturday is the final day of the City of Salisbury’s Spring Clean-Up Week. Pick up trash bags at any of the four city facilities (City Park, Civic Center, Miller Center, Hall Gym). The opening of the Salisbury-Rowan County Farmers Market spring season takes place at the corner of S. Main and E. Bank Streets from 7 a.m.-noon on Saturday. The first of the planned annual City of Salisbury 10K Run, 5K Walking Loop and Kids Fun Runs starts Saturday at 8 a.m. at City Park. Funds raised will directly benefit Relay for Life of Rowan County.
