SALISBURY — The Covenant Community Connection will plant the city’s fifth peace pole at Kelsey Scott Park next month.
Coordinator Betty Jo Hardy made the announcement Tuesday at the Mayor’s Spirit Luncheon, where the pole was displayed. The Covenant Community Connection, a subgroup of the Salisbury Rowan Human Relations Council, hosts the spirit luncheon twice a year.
The group will plant the peace pole on Let’s Get Connected Day at 11 a.m. May 21.
The first pole is located at City Park near the gazebo. The second is in the Bell Tower Park in downtown.
The third is located at Dan Nicholas Park near the carrousel. The fourth is at Sloan Park. All proclaim the message, “May peace prevail on Earth.”
“If we could only try harder to understand one another, no matter our religion or the color of our skin … what a difference we could make,” Hardy said at the luncheon.
The event, which celebrates racial and religious diversity, featured prayers from four different religious traditions.
A Buddhist prayer was delivered by Jack Errante. A Jewish prayer by Dr. Seth Labovitz, an Islamic prayer by Seddiq Behrooz, and a Christian prayer by Carrol J.W. Fisher.
