Bringle Ferry Road has been closed in the 6800 block near Dan Nicholas Park after a car hit a power pole and utility lines fell across the road, according to emergency radio communications.
Authorities are diverting drivers on both sides of the downed power lines or telling them to turn around.
Duke Energy was on the way to clear the lines at 7:25 p.m.
