SALISBURY — Police charged a suspect Friday in the February armed robbery of Bank of America.
Kareem Jamall Henderson, 28, of 3311 Alaska St., New York, N.Y., was charged with robbery with a firearm and held under a $250,000 bond. He was already in the Rowan County Detention Center under $100,000 bond for a previous charge Thursday of robbery with a dangerous weapon of a Papa John’s Pizza deliveryman.
The bank robbery at 500 W. Innes St. took place Feb. 1.
During the robbery, the suspect jumped over the counter and showed a weapon to clerks. He took money and ran from the bank. A security guard on duty fired two rounds that missed him, but the bullets hit the SunTrust Bank across the street.
The suspect was able to get away.
Investigators T.B. Shulenburger and P.J. Smith worked off a Crime Stoppers tip to get the name of the suspect and secured warrants on Henderson.
His first appearance in court is scheduled for Monday.
Salisbury Police Chief Rory Collins praised the community for providing assistance with the case. After the robbery, police received multiple tips.
The latest tip brought enough evidence to bring the charge.
“This is a perfect example of the benefits of a strong partnership with the community,” Collins said in a release.
