Early registration at DCCC

Earlier registration deadlines for summer, fall and spring semester enrollment at Davidson County Community College will result in students who are better oriented and more prepared to begin classes, college admissions representatives say.
ěWe are trying to help students avoid the last minute stress of late registration so that they can get off to a smooth start on the first day of classes,î said Kim Sepich, DCCCís vice president of student affairs.
For students wanting to begin 2011 summer semester classes on June 1, their college applications and other admission documents must be completed by May 10. Students seeking financial aid for the summer term must complete the 2010-2011 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by April 29.
Students who wish to begin fall 2011 classes on Aug. 17 must have their applications and other admission documents completed and turned in by July 22. The 2011-2012 FAFSA must be completed by July 1 for the fall semester. Students may apply for financial aid after July 1, but their awards will be delayed.
Sepich explained the earlier registration deadlines will allow students more time to make sure their class schedule is in order and that they know where they stand in terms of financial aid. The extra time will also allow students more flexibility to attend a required orientation session during which they are introduced to the DCCC campuses, take tours, get information they need to buy books and supplies, and meet instructors and advisers.
ěOrientation helps our students in many ways,î Sepich explained. ěWe have added a new Family Orientation session that encourages studentsí parents, siblings or spouses to become involved and attend with their student. It helps students and family members know what to expect from the college experience.î
The admissions and enrollment process may be completed online at www.davidsonccc.edu, and students may meet with an enrollment counselor in the Mendenhall Building on the Davidson Campus and in the Administration Building on the Davie Campus in Mocksville. For more information, call 336-249-8186.
