Author visits Shady Brook in Kannapolis

KANNAPOLIS ó New York Times bestselling author Carole Boston Weatherford visited Shady Brook Elementary recently, conducting a writing workshop with students and staff.
Weatherford has written 32 books that celebrate family stories, fading traditions and forgotten struggles.
Her books have won the Caldecott Honor, the Coretta Scott King Award, the Lee Bennett Hopkins Award, the Jefferson Cup the Carter G. Woodson Award from the National Council for Social Studies, the NAACP Image Award, and two North Carolina Juvenile Literature Awards.
Her best known titles include ěMoses: When Harriet Tubman Led Her People to Freedomî; ěBecoming Billie Holiday;î ěBirmingham, 1963î; and ěFreedom on the Menu: The Greensboro Sit-Ins.î
Weatherford is a professor at Fayetteville State University.
