National briefs: Paul recovering

CHICAGO ó New Orleans star Chris Paul sat out Mondayís game against the Chicago Bulls and is day to day while he recovers from a concussion.
Coach Monty Williams said the four-time All-Star ělooked a lot better than he did sitting on that floorî Sunday night in Cleveland, when he collided with Cavaliers guard Ramon Sessions, but the Hornets wonít rush him back.
They next play Dallas on Wednesday. Paul was at the arena Monday but did not make himself available for comment before the game. Jarrett Jack started in his place.
Paul was injured in the third quarter against the Cavaliers, when he lost the ball driving into the lane and hit his forehead on Sessionsí right shoulder. Paul stayed on the floor as trainers from both teams attended to him.
CHARLOTTE ó Los Angeles Clippers coach Vinny Del Negro is ěoptimisticî top scorer Eric Gordon will return this season after he aggravated a right wrist injury over the weekend that will keep him out indefinitely.
Del Negro said before Mondayís game against Charlotte to open an East Coast swing that Gordon will likely remain in Los Angeles for the duration of the five-game trip. Del Negro said tests revealed no serious damage, but itís uncertain when heíll be able to play again.

Yahoo! Sports is reporting Ohio State football coach Jim Tressel was informed that some of his players had sold memorabilia to the owner of a tattoo parlor more than eight months before the school said it was made aware of improper transactions.
The website, citing an unidentified source, reports Tressel received information as early as April 2010 that players were selling items to Edward Rife, who owns Fine Line Ink Tattoos in Columbus

TAMPA, Fla. ó Alex Ovechkin assisted on Washingtonís only goal in regulation, then scored in the opening round of the shootout to give the first-place Capitals a 2-1 victory over the slumping Tampa Bay Lightning on Monday night.
Blues 5, Blue Jackets 4, SO
ST. LOUIS ó Andy McDonald scored two goals and added another in a shootout in St. Louisí victory over Columbus.
Ben Bishop allowed one goal on 20 shots after relieving Ty Conklin midway through the first period with St. Louis trailing 3-1.
The Blues scored three times on four shots against Steve Mason in the shootout with Alex Steen getting the deciding tally.
St. Louis won for only the second time in nine games and avoiding dropping below .500 for the first time all season, and sent the Blue Jackets to their fifth straight loss.
Jakub Voracek had a goal and assist for Columbus, and Rick Nash had two assists.
Patrik Berglund added a goal and an assist for the Blues, who totaled four goals the previous four games. David Backes had two assists, ending a five-game point drought.
