Vehicle emissions are one of the biggest contributors to air
pollution in North Carolina, leading to asthma and other respiratory problems
in more and more children and adults. The website for the division, which is
part of the N.C. Department of Environment and Natural Resources, explains the
importance of reducing idling and includes links to other websites offering
more information.

Signs featuring a key in an ignition switch and the words,
“Turn Off Your Engine: Breathe Better, Save Money,” are available
from the division for posting in parking lots. Information on the initiative is
also available for schools and organizations.

Businesses in Rowan and Cabarrus counties may contact the
Center for the Environment at Catawba College for the free signs: . Or
individuals may contact  air.awareness@ncdenr.gov  directly for more information or to get involved in the
program.
