Salisbury police are looking for a man who committed an armed robbery this afternoon at Bank of America on West Innes Street.
Police say the robber entered the bank and stood in the lobby for several minutes before running over to the counter and scaling it. He then pointed a handgun at several of the tellers and took an undisclosed amount of money.
A private security guard waited outside near the ATM and fired a couple shots at the man as he ran out the door. The bullets missed and struck the SunTrust building across the street.
According to the Salisbury Police Department, the robber fled south on foot parallel to Ellis Street carrying a red and black backpack. At least one witness tried to follow him but lost sight of him among some houses.
The robber was described as a black male about 6 feet 2 inches tall with a thin build. He was wearing a dark blue windbreaker style jacket and a black toboggan with a blue rim.
Police say a small, white two-door vehicle with a black marking on the rear bumper fled the parking lot quickly and may have been involved.
