A Salisbury woman is in stable condition at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center following a wreck at the intersection of U.S. 52 and Gold Knob Road.
Doris Dick, 73, the passenger of a Nissan Rogue driven by Louise Dulkoski, 79, was trapped in the car after it was hit and flew through the air, landing on its side against a utility pole. Emergency responders cut the roof of the car to get to her, and a landing zone was set up nearby for an AirCare helicopter.
Dulkoski was able to get out of the car with the help of two witnesses to the crash, and was transported to Rowan Regional Medical Center for minor injuries.
Dulkoski and Dick were traveling toward Salisbury on U.S. 52 shortly after 11 a.m.
Linda Brown, 61, driving a Honda Odyssey, drove across the highway from Crescent road and her van clipped the back left bumper of Dulkoski’s Nissan, N.C. Trooper Eric Perdue said.
Pastor Todd Watson of The River Church of God, stopped at the intersection of Gold Knob Road and U.S. 52 and had to put his church van in reverse, barely missing being hit by the Nissan flying through the air.
Watson helped Dulkoski out of her car, and sat and prayed with Dick until emergency responders arrived.
Brown was cited for failure to yield the right of way.
The Rockwell and Rockwell Rural fire departments responded, along with Rowan EMS and the Rowan County Rescue Squad.
Duke Energy also had more than four employees on scene to install a new utility pole.
