CLEVELAND — After receiving numerous calls in the wee hours of Jan. 5 from his friend Dallas Brown, Matthew Hill, of Cotton Wood Road, returned home the next morning to find the front door of his home had been kicked in and $53 missing from his dresser.
The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office investigated, and found muddy footprints inside, along with a beer bottle on the porch. The first suspect was Brown, authorities said.
On Jan. 8, Brown agreed to come to the Sheriff’s Office, but Hill got there first and told investigators Brown admitted to him he was the one who broke into the house, the report said. Brown also spoke to officers, and warrants for his arrest were drawn.
Brown, 21, of 412 Ridge Mill Circle, Lexington, turned himself in to authorities Jan. 17. He was charged with felony breaking and entering and felony larceny. He was released on a written promise.
