Catawba splits with Lenoir-Rhyne on road

Catawbaís menís basketball team won 83-81 in overtime at Lenoir-Rhyne on Wednesday for its first victory in 2011.
The Indians (6-9, 2-5 SAC) had dropped five games in a row and hadnít won since Dec. 17.
Apparently there wasnít anything wrong with Catawba that a healthy Dominick Reid couldnít cure.
Reid, a senior point guard, showed no ill effects from a concussion that forced him to miss several games and limited him last week. He scored 25 points, hitting four 3-pointers and shooting 9-for-11 from the foul line. Reid also grabbed a team-high eight rebounds.
Freshman Keon Moore scored 21 points and knocked down three 3s.
Lee Martin added 14 points, and Justin Huntley had 12.
Allan Jones (18 points), Jeff Thomas (17) and Northwest Cabarrus product Jon Hathcock (15) paced the Bears (2-13, 1-6).
Catawba led by seven points early, but the Bears caught up. Then it stayed tight all the way.
Catawba took a 73-68 lead with 2:40 left in regulation on a bucket by Moore but didnít score again. Hathcockís 3-pointer beat the buzzer and forced overtime.
Reid hit two tiebreaking free throws in the OT period for an 82-81 lead with 28 seconds left.
Huntley hit one free throw with nine seconds left for a two-point lead.
Moore grabbed the clinching rebound when L-Rís Kevin Davis missed a 3-pointer as time expired.

It was the second straight SAC setback for the Indians, who fell into a three-way tie for first with Mars Hill and Tusculum.
Catawba (11-6, 5-2) shot 38 percent and was only 2-for-11 on 3-pointers.
SAC rebounding leader Dana Hicks had 15 points and 17 boards to lead the Indians. Milica Ivanovic scored 13 points.
Cameron Sealey hit three 3-pointers, dished out seven assists and scored 17 points to lead the Bears (7-8, 4-3).
Lenoir-Rhyne led by 17 midway through the second half and held off a charge by the Indians.
