A teen who was a passenger in a pickup truck that crashed Wednesday evening has died, the Highway Patrol has confirmed.
Justin Hill, 18, was a middle passenger in a 1987 Chevy that overturned on Barger Road, off Stokes Ferry Road. The truck that also held two others, driver Justin Medlin and Brooke Royston, both 18, swerved while heading south just before 7 p.m. and overturned.
Hill died Friday afternoon.
Two of the riders were thrown from the truck said investigating Trooper E.B. Perdue. Perdue said Justin Medlin’s seatbelt saved him from serious injury.
Justin Hill was not wearing a seatbelt, while Brooke Royston was only wearing a shoulder belt.
Medlin, who was taken to Rowan Regional Medical Center has since been released. Royston, who was treated at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center has also been released.
The trooper said icy conditions were the cause of the crash. The truck hit an icy spot, Perdue said.
Powles Funeral Home in Rockwell is in charge of arrangements.
