People interested in the direction of the hometown supermarket that grew into the Food Lion chain will want to watch Cathy Green, who was named president of the company in February.
In that role, she also oversees Bloom, Harveys and Reid’s supermarkets. She replaced Rick Anicetti, who was promoted to a senior vice president’s slot at parent-company Delhaize before losing his job several months later.
At the time of her promotion, Ron Hodge, CEO of Delhaize America Operations, called Green “an outstanding leader” with an “in-depth knowledge of the grocery industry.”
“She is a leader who operates with the customer in mind, focused on delivering excellent service, quality products and lower prices to our customers,” Hodge said in a press release.
In her first few months on the job, the company raised Green’s profile by featuring her in Food Lion television ads.
Before her promotion, Green had been chief operating officer of Food Lion, overseeing the company’s retail operations, merchandising, marketing, and distribution network.
Green’s recognitions include being named a 2007 Top Woman in Grocery by Progressive Grocer, one of Supermarket News’ Power 50 in 2009 and one of Mass Market Retailer’s Most Influential Women in Mass Market Retailing in January of this year.
Communications staff with Food Lion declined to let Green be interviewed and requested questions be submitted in writing. Questions were submitted by e-mail, but responses had not been received by deadline.
