Spencer woman celebrates 100th birthday

SPENCER ó Catherine Cecil Earnhardt of 703 S. Rowan Ave., Spencer, celebrated her 100th birthday recently.
She was born Nov. 28, 1909, in Badin, the oldest of Jack and Lizzie Cecil’s five children.
Her family honored her with a party Nov. 28 on Seventh Street in Spencer.
She was married on April 29, 1929, to Preston Ritchie Earnhardt of Richfield. They had two daughters, Wanda Brandt, who lives with Mrs. Earnhardt, and Norma Talbert of Charlotte. Mr. Earnhardt passed away March 15, 1966.
She has six grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, four step-great-grandchildren and five step-great-great grandchildren.
She is a member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Spencer.
For many years, she hemmed sheets at Cannon Mill in Kannapolis, riding a bus to work each day.
She enjoys fill-it-in puzzles and watching “Golden Girls” and “The Price is Right” on television.
She attributes her long life to clean living.
