KANNAPOLIS ó Children at the Church of God Children’s Home got a visit from Santa Claus and Storm Troopers recently.
Santa came bearing gifts, but not in his sleigh. He arrived in a convertible Mini Cooper. And he was accompanied not by elves, but firefighters from Kannapolis Fire Department Station 1, who roared in on a fire truck with lights and sirens going.
One of the children at the home was celebrating a birthday on the day of the Christmas Party. The birthday child is a fan of Star Wars, so Santa was accompanied by the Storm Troopers from Carolina Garrison’s 501st Legion.
After Santa began to give out gifts, the doors flung open and the Imperial March began. Carolina Garrison presented the child with an authentic Light Saber. Later, the Storm Troopers joined Santa in the limbo and the Cupid shuffle.
Gail and Elizabeth Davis conceived of the Christmas party for Church of God Children’s Home five years ago. The event has gotten bigger each year.
Businesses, organizations and individuals that helped put on the party are: Hendrick MINI, the Kannapolis Fire Department, Barron Homesley Orthopedic Specialists, Carolina Garrison, DJ Marty Medlin, the Lane family and the Blyth family and Red Dog Productions.
