Highlighting youth who serve others
On behalf of Rowan United Way, Rowan Rotary and our entire community, I want to thank the Salisbury Post and reporter Shavonne Potts for the great coverage of this year’s Service Above Self Awards program. Not many newspapers would have provided over a page and a half of news space to highlight the volunteer service of youth in a region. We are so fortunate to have the Post as well as the youth who were recognized for their volunteer service that night. These volunteers will be the leaders and volunteers in our future. They have given of their services beyond self to help others. What purpose ó what character! During this season of giving, (and any time throughout the year), it is a blessing to see our children and youth reaching out to give the gift of “self.”
I also appreciate the many teachers, counselors, parents, grandparents and citizens who took the time to nominate these students for Service Above Self. Thanks to them and a reminder that we are now taking nominations for 2010!
Finally, I add my personal gratitude for all the Post does to promote United Way as well as Service Above Self for the benefit of our community.

Delightful tour
I would like to thank everyone who made the Spencer Homes Tour possible and to the Salisbury Post for the articles before and after the tour. What a delight it was to see my family homeplace restored to such beauty and warmth, bringing back so many happy childhood memories.
Thanks to all the families who put so much time and energy into bringing those beautiful old homes back to life.
