Catawba’s women’s basketball team beat Livingstone 81-64 on Saturday at Goodman Gym for coach Angie Morton’s 100th victory.
Nisha Long scored 20 points to lead the Indians (4-3).
Catawba led the Blue Bears (2-6) 32-30 at halftime, but used a 12-0 run in the second half to take control.
Maggie Sullivan scored six of her season-high 13 points in the run. Kisha Long had 12 points, while Milica Ivanovic had nine points and 10 rebounds.
Kayler McBride led Livingstone with 16 points, while Khalia Boston added 14 points off the bench. Cassaundra Rhodes had 12 points and seven rebounds.
n College swimming
Pfeiffer freshman Julianna Prim is ranked No. 1 in Division II in the 200 butterfly. She swam the event in 2:04.66 at the Wingate Fall Frenzy.
n The Catawba women’s swim team finished fourth at the three-day while the men were sixth at the Savannah College of Art & Design Invite on Saturday.
Three individual records were set on the final day by freshman Lindsay Yarborough , Katie Huff (North Stanly) and Mikael Karlsson.
Huff won the 100 breast event and set a school record in the prelim with a time of 1:06.60. Yarborough also set her record in the prelim, coming in the 100 back (2:09.01).
Karlsson notched his record in the 200 IM (1:56.87), finishing second.
n North Hills basketball
The North Hills Middle girls won the Jonny Richardson Tournament.
Natalie Whicker scored 13 points and Candace-Craig Lyerly 10 in a 35-11 win against St. Michael’s.
The Eagles beat Statesville Montessori 20-9 for the championship. Whicker and Morgan Bowman scored six points each.
Whicker received MVP honors, and was Bowman was named all-tournament.
n The North Hills boys defeated Woodlawn 34-29 in the championship game of the Jonny Richardson Tournament.
Luke Humble had 12 points and 14 rebounds. Jay Wood had 11 points.
n Salisbury Academy
Salisbury Academy’s jayvee girls defeated Sacred Heart on Juliana Anderson’s late free throws but lost to North Hills. Emily Capito had nine points. Jordan McCall, Jenny Kribbs and Samantha Pritchard had good games.
n Salisbury Academy’s jayvee boys beat Sacred Heart but lost to North Hills.
Harrison Smith had seven points, including winning free throws in the game with Sacred Heart. Tyler Peoples, Walker Latimer and Robbie Bergstone played well for SA.
n Salisbury Academy’s varsity girls topped Our Lady of Mercy 21-9. Alexandra Drye scored 12 points. Isabella Rusher led the defense. Ann Rollins Johnson led the rebounding.
Madeline Hoskins and Anna Flynn scored eight points each for SA in a 45-2 win against Forsyth Country Day. Samantha Wright had six points. Elle Wimmer sparked the defense.
n Jon Mark Petty scored 32 points for the Salisbury Academy varsity boys in a 45-40 win against Woodlawn. Lucas Capito and John Latimer led a fourth-quarter comeback.
Latimer had eight points and Ian Lins had 10 rebounds in a 51-29 loss to Lake Norman Christian.
Petty had 16 points and Capito nine in a 33-22 win against Forsyth Country Day.
n Sacred Heart basketball
Sacred Heart’s varsity boys basketball team lost 43-38 at Hickory Christian.
The Dolphins (7-4) were led by Eric Edwards’ three 3-pointers and 13 points and Banks Fisher’s 10 points and 13 rebounds. Chili Chilton and Max Fisher had six points each.
n Stallions hoops
The Cabarrus-Rowan Homeschool Stallions lost three games Friday to Greenville (S.C.).
The varsity boys lost 64-53. Matt Galley scored 21 points, followed by John Clay with 10 and Michael Phillips with nine.
– The varsity girls fell 40-36, despite 21 points from Hannah Holm. Katelynne Holm added seven and Becca Bare six.
– The jayvee boys lost 64-41. Grant Stoller had 12 and Rockford Stoller had 11. Levi Tucker scored eight and Spencer Bare six for the Stallions.
n The Stallions middle school boys team topped High Point Homeschool 53-11.
Corbin Riley had 10 points for the Stallions (5-1, 2-0). Daniel Lawson and Coby Hansen scored eight apiece.
n Prep hoops
West Rowan will postpone its basketball games this week due to the football playoffs.
On Tuesday, only the jayvee girls and boys will play at Davie, beginning at 4:30 p.m.
On Wednesday, the jayvees will play Northwest Cabarrus, starting at 4:30 p.m.
Friday’s varsity doubleheader with South Rowan also will be rescheduled.
n There are some games Monday with North Rowan playing Salisbury, South Rowan traveling to Northwest Cabarrus and Carson taking on Concord Jay M. Robinson.
n Moir Classic
Dates and times are set for the 38th annual Sam Moir Christmas Classic basketball tournament at Catawba’s Goodman Gym.
There will be six games daily, starting at noon. Tournament dates are Monday-Wednesday, Dec. 28-30.
Tournament seeds are based on pre-Christmas winning percentages. If more than one team is undefeated, the team with more wins will be seeded higher.
Championship games will be played at 6:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. on Dec. 30.
Daily admission is $6. Admission is $3 for ages 5-12. Children under 5 are admitted free.
n Prep wrestling
Carson defeated Salisbury 66-12 on Wednesday.
Winning for the Cougars (4-3) were Julian Blackwelder (103), Adam Broome (112), Ryan Craft (119), Spencer Chapman (125), Nick Golden (130), Jacob Casey (135), Nathan McMasters (145), Anson Phillips (152), Tyler Starnes (171), Jacorian Brown (189), T.J. Smith (215) and Micah Honeycutt (285).n In Carson’s 39-33 victory against West Davidson on Thursday, pins by Blackwelder, Golden, Dylan Leddon, Phillips and Starnes made the difference. Also winning were Brown, Smith and Honeycutt.
n Winning JV matches for the Cougars were Jordan Craddick, Andrew Foster and Nathan Hill.
n Christmas camps
Catawba basketball’s Christmas camps will be held on Dec. 22-24 at Catawba and Covenant Classical for ages 5-15, half day and full day camps for boys and girls.

n Women’s college hoops
South Carolina State’s Sophilia Hipps (North Rowan) scored 15 points and handed out four assists in a 65-55 win at Winston-Salem State on Saturday.
Hipps was 8-for-9 from the foul line.
n C-N Eagles end season
The 10th-ranked Carson-Newman football team lost at No. 3 Grand Valley State 41-27 in Allandale, Mich., on Saturday.
Grand Valley State (13-1) will make its sixth national championship game appearance and will face California (Pa.) on Dec. 12 at Braly Municipal Stadium in Florence, Ala.
The Lakers have won four national titles this decade.
The Eagles (11-3) fall short of what would have been their fourth Division II title game appearance. The loss also snapped an 11-game C-N winning streak.
“This was a great year,” C-N head coach Ken Sparks said. “We had a lot of great things happen. I was probably late in establishing some things with this football team that needed to be established a little bit earlier, but they hung in there and matured. We started off 0-2 and ended up playing in the semifinals, and this team did a beautiful job with it.”
The Lakers piled up 408 yards of offense on the day, including 290 on the ground. The Grand Valley State defense held the Eagles to 278 yards of offense, which was C-N’s second lowest total of the season.
“They did a better job blocking and tackling than we did,” Sparks said. “They whipped us pretty good up front on offense and defense.”
C-N senior running back Buck Wakefield wrapped up his stellar career with 119 yards rushing and three touchdowns to lead the Eagles. Wakefield also had an 89-yard kickoff return for a touchdown.
