A 26-year-old Salisbury man has been charged with felony child abuse of his 5-week-old daughter, who sustained a brain injury.
David Lee Uber of Inglewood Lane was arrested Wednesday and placed in the Rowan County Detention Center.
Capt. John Sifford said the infant girl was taken to the emergency room at Rowan Regional Medical Center on Thanksgiving Day.
Hospital staff contacted law enforcement and the Rowan County Department of Social Services.
The infant was immediately transferred to the children’s intensive care unit at Carolinas Medical Center-NorthEast with a brain contusion and two rib fractures. The child remains hospitalized in the Concord hospital.
The Department of Social Services has taken custody of the child and will be placing her in foster care.
Sifford said the investigation is continuing and charges are expected against the mother.
