Staff Report

An elderly Landis man who died on Christmas Day in an accident on N.C. 152 was riding with his wife to visit relatives, according to N.C. Highway Patrol Trooper M.D. Ramey.

Britt Wyatt, 90, and his wife, Estelle Wyatt, 81, of 312 W. Davis St., were traveling east on N.C. 152 in heavy rain when Estelle Wyatt lost control of the couple’s 2001 Toyota and crossed the center line.

Their car ran off the road to the left and down an embankment, hitting a ditch filled with water, according to the accident report.

The Wyatts were taken to NorthEast Medical Center where Britt Wyatt later died of his injuries.

Estelle Wyatt was in fair condition Tuesday.

No other vehicles were involved and no one witnessed the accident.

According to Ramey, wet roads were a factor.

The investigation is continuing.
