Staff report
Authorities charged a 17-year-old West Rowan High student with assault following a fight with another student at the school. The suspect later had to be taken to the hospital.
The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office charged Tamar McNeely, 17, of 125 Neita Drive, Salisbury, with simple assualt; resisting, obstruct and delay an officer and communicating threats.
The incident occurred Tuesday. The victim was a 16-year-old male student. He was not injured.
Capt. John Sifford was not able to discuss what precipitated the fight, except to say that McNeely initiated the fight.
He was suspended from the school for 10 days, Sifford said.
School officials called an ambulance for McNeely when it appeared he’d suffered an apparent seizure.
Sifford said McNeely was taken to the hospital and later released.
Sheriff’s and school officials have not confirmed the student’s medical condition.
