Tinker, Totter and Teeter found Tuesday’s temperatures totally terrific.
So said Sandra Evans, the owner of the three dogs.
“Oh, man, they’re digging this,” Evans said, as she and her dogs lounged on the grass in Hurley Park, soaking in Tuesday afternoon’s rays.
Evans brought her three dogs ó all mutts rescued from Rowan County Animal Shelter ó to the park for a bit of fun and exercise.
Well, Tinker and Totter engaged in a bit of fun and exercise, anyway. Teeter, the older of the three, merely snoozed.
“He’s fat and happy,” Evans observed.
Of course there were lots of people ó as well as canines ó who were plenty happy with Tuesday’s temperatures.
According to the Rowan County Web site, Tuesday afternoon’s high reached 75 degrees at the county’s airport.
It was unseasonably warm and comfortable, but the afternoon’s official high of 74 degrees didn’t quite eclipse the record high of 78 degrees that has stood since 1927.
Blair Holloway, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service, said Tuesday’s conditions were the result of much of North Carolina being sandwiched between a developing low pressure system to the west and a high pressure system stagnated over the Atlantic Ocean.
“You’re getting a nice, warm southerly flow of air,” Holloway said. “Enjoy it while you can.”
He said conditions won’t change appreciably today, with the afternoon high again expected to climb close to 70 degrees.
For the rest of the week, it’ll be partly cloudy with afternoon highs reaching the mid-50s.
