KANNAPOLIS ó Police have not yet released the identity of a man killed Thursday night when the vehicle he was driving ran into a tree.
The wreck happened at 8:19 p.m. at 2228 Shady Lane Extension.
According to police, the man’s 1998 Pontiac was traveling north on Shady Lane Extension, nearing the Flicker Street intersection, when it ran off the road. It ran through the yard of the house at 2228 Shady Lane Extension and hit a tree.
A Kannapolis Police press release said authorities did not know what caused the accident ó whether the driver was unaware of the surroundings or if drugs or alcohol were a factor. Police have requested an autopsy and are continuing their investigation.
The Police Department is awaiting notification of a relative before releasing the victim’s name.
