Staff report
KANNAPOLIS ó A Kannapolis teenager has been charged with armed robbery of the Value Village thrift shop on Cannon Boulevard.
And police suspect he may have been involved in other recent robberies.
Quanticus Devote Rucker, of 109 Trice St., is in the Cabarrus County Jail under $25,000 bond.
Kannapolis Police Department Capt. Chuck Adams said Rucker is one of two men who went in the back door of Value Village around 8:30 p.m. Jan. 9.
Adams said the store was starting to close, when the men entered the back, got the manager and made him open the safe. The amount of cash taken was not immediately available.
They tied the manager’s hands and feet before leaving.
Adams said Rucker has thus far refused to name his accomplice. Police are cross-referencing the descriptions of Rucker and his accomplice with other robberies.
On Dec. 30, two black men robbed the BP station on North Cannon Boulevard. They implied they had a weapon, but never displayed one. And on Dec. 31, three young black men, displaying a gun, robbed Jordan’s Hot Spot on South Main Street.
Adams said police are also looking at possible connections in three other robberies.
A white man armed with a handgun robbed Jordan’s Hot Spot on Dec. 29 and on Jan. 6.
The suspect was described as a white male in his early 20s. In one of the robberies, the man was further described as 5 feet, 10 inches tall and about 160 pounds.
The description is similar, police note, to the description of a man who committed a home invasion on Jan. 7.
In that case, a man barged into the home of a Pleasant Avenue couple after they answered the door.
Armed with a knife, he forced them to give him money.
Anyone with information on any of these robberies or suspects is asked to contact Sgt. Chris R. Nesbitt at 704-920-4022 or report information anonymously to the Crime Stoppers Hotline at 704-93-CRIME.
