KANNAPOLIS ó A 21-year-old Kannapolis man already charged with murdering a Salisbury dentist has now been accused of the intentional burning of Moss & Moore heating and air conditioning in 2007.
On Nov. 16, 2007, the Kannapolis Fire Department units responded to Moss & Moore, at 1307 S. Main St., after a motorist saw smoke coming from the business.
Flames had erupted from the building by the time fire units arrived, and even though Concord and Landis firefighters joined the effort, the fire destroyed the business.
Kannapolis Fire Department investigators ruled the fire as suspicious and contacted the Kannapolis Police Department for further investigation. No charges had been filed until Wednesday.
Dr. James David Boyd, a Salisbury dentist, was killed in June, and Christopher Boyd, who is not related to the victim, and two others were arrested shortly thereafter. Christopher Boyd has been in jail ever since.
In a statement released late Wednesday afternoon, Kannapolis police officials said the department received a tip through Crime Stoppers that Boyd might be responsible for the Moss & Moore fire.
Investigator Cheryl H. Hearne “corroborated this information and obtained warrants for the arrest of Christopher Boyd on the following charges: burning other buildings, breaking and entering and felony larceny.”
The Rowan County Sheriff’s Department will serve Christopher Boyd with the warrants in the Rowan County Detention Center.
