Snow falls on Beech Mountain
BEECH MOUNTAIN (AP) ó The National Weather Service says an inch of spring snow fell in one North Carolina mountain town, but that lower elevations are too warm for frozen precipitation.
Doug Outlaw of the weather service office in Greer, S.C., said Monday that Beech Mountain had an inch and a trace was recorded on Mount Mitchell.
Outlaw said the snow came from colder-than-usual overnight temperatures and a rainy system along the North Carolina-Tennessee border. The forecast was for more snow showers at higher elevations until midmorning and rain elsewhere, then more snow showers Monday night as the system moved out.
