ASHEVILLE (AP) ó School officials have delayed the start of classes in several western North Carolina counties because snow fell overnight and made roads slippery.
The Asheville Citizen-Times reports that schools will delay opening two hours Tuesday in mountainous Avery, Haywood, Madison, Mitchell and Yancey counties.
Forecasters said light snow was falling early in the morning across the counties along the Tennessee border with North Carolina, but was expected to end in the early afternoon. A winter weather advisory was issued and areas above 3,000 feet could get one to three inches of snow.
Freezing temperatures gave at least one ski area a boost. Officials at Cataloochee Ski Area started making snow Monday morning and planned to open the resort early Tuesday afternoon.
