A Salisbury man has been charged with breaking into a downtown business and a vehicle.
James Edward Stroy, 46, of 226 N. Long St., is charged with breaking and entering a motor vehicle and misdemeanor larceny.
Officers responded Saturday to a break-in at OK Wig at the corner of West Innes and South Main streets.
A witness reported seeing the suspect sitting near the shop door. The witness then saw the suspect leave a bag near the side door of the business, a report said. The witness told police the suspect appeared to be trying to reach his hand through a glass door while sitting in front of the door.
When officers checked the shop, they noticed a portion of the glass door broken. The suspect also had blood on his arm, possibly from the broken glass, the police report said.
Police located a bag with stolen items that belonged to a woman who lives on South Jackson Street. A report said the car break-in occurred sometime between Monday and Sunday.
Officers recovered the bag containing a crow bar, several DVDs, a couple of cell phones, jewelry, phone cards and a flashlight, among other items.
Stroy remained in the Rowan County Detention Center under a $10,000 bond Monday. The investigation continues.
