The man whose motorized wheelchair was hit by a car on U.S. 29 Saturday morning in the Yadkin community has died from his injuries, according to the N.C. Highway Patrol.
John Bynum Chambers, 87, of 240 Zeb St., Salisbury, was initially transported to Rowan Regional Medical Center before being airlifted to Carolinas Medical Center, where he died later.
A detailed accident report was not available over the weekend.
The Highway Patrol said Sunday only that Chambers’ wheelchair was traveling south in the road on U.S. 29 near Peace Street when it was struck by a car.
No identity was given for the car’s driver.
Chambers’ Zeb Street address is not far from where the accident happened about 9:40 a.m. Saturday.
Zeb and Peace streets are part of the Yadkin community ó north of Spencer and near the Yadkin River ó which sprung up years ago next to the former N.C. Finishing Co. plant, which has been torn down to make way for the proposed High Rock Raceway.
