Rowan Roundup: Home Instead names Caregiver of the Month

Renay Dement has been named Caregiver of the Month for September at Home Instead Senior Care, 625 W. Innes St., a provider of non-medical in home care and companionship services for seniors.
This award is given to an employee who goes above and beyond the call of duty in caring for seniors with whom they are entrusted.
Dement, mother of two, joined the Home Instead in May.
“Renay has a warm heart and truly cares about giving professional, caring service to her clients. She is a real asset to our team,” says Mona Knight, staffing coordinator. “She also is great at picking up extra shifts. Renay is an amazing and dependable person.”
Satisfaction honors
Medicine Shoppe pharmacies have once again been awarded top honors for customer satisfaction among retail pharmacy chains by J.D. Power and Associates.
The chain has a store at 1357 W. Innes St.
The 2008 J.D. Power study results show Medicine Shoppe pharmacy’s customer satisfaction score as 873 out of 1,000, exceeding industry average for chain pharmacies by 68 points. The average chain score was 805.
Wooten re-elected
Jack Wooten of the Cleveland community in Rowan County was re-elected to a three-year term on the EnergyUnited Board of Directors at the cooperative’s annual membership meeting. About 1,000 people attended the Sept. 20 event at Davie County High School in Mocksville.
Wooten has served on the board for 30 years representing Directorate District 6, which encompasses parts of Rowan, Cabarrus, Mecklenburg, Gaston, Lincoln and Catawba counties.
Also re-elected to three-year terms were Jerry Anderson of Mocksville in Davie County and Charles Hedrick of Lexington and B. Glenn Smith of the Linwood community, both in Davidson County.
Anderson represents Directorate District 1 and has been on the board 23 years.
Hedrick represents Directorate District 5 and has been on the board 23 years.
Smith represents Directorate District 5 and has been on the board 33 years.
Activities at the meeting included a health screening fair, child fingerprinting and entertainment by Radio Disney and regional favorites The Flowers Family. Following the business session, door prizes were given away and lunch served.
Performance award
First Bancorp of Troy, the parent company of First Bank, has announced it has been recognized by investment banking firm Sandler O’Neill & Partners as one of the top performing small-cap banks in the nation.
Out of 574 publicly traded banks and thrifts with a market cap of less than $2 billion, First Bancorp was one of only 33 institutions in the nation and one of two in North Carolina selected to Sandler O’Neill’s “Sm-All Star” list. The analysis focused on growth, profitability, credit quality and capital strength.
First Bancorp is a bank holding company headquartered in Troy with total assets exceeding $2.6 billion. Its principal activity is the ownership and operation of First Bank, a state-chartered community bank that operates 74 branch offices with 63 branches in a 21-county market area in North and South Carolina, including Salisbury, and 5 branches in Virginia.
Employees recognized
Carolina Beverage Corp., maker of Cheerwine, held its first Driver Appreciation celebration last week at all of the company’s locations in the region.
Employees who put safety first were recognized for their efforts over the past year, and the company also saluted five employees with 35-plus years of service.
They included Dale Marlin, 35 years with Piedmont Cheerwine Bottling as a route sales associate; Ray Kepley, 40 years with Piedmont Cheerwine Bottling as general manager; and Brenda Gardner, 37 years with Piedmont Cheerwine Bottling in the sales/accounting department.
Retired employees who continue to serve on a part-time basis include Raymond Ritchie, who has been with the company for 56 years, and Pat Patterson, an employee for 40 years.
Time Warner honor
Time Warner Cable has been chosen by Multichannel News as its 2008 Operator of the Year. The magazine, published by Reed Business Information, saluted the company in the print and online edition of the Sept. 29 issue.
Time Warner Cable is being highlighted specifically for standing out as a successful launcher of innovative video services, for its competitive strength in key market territories and for the successful positioning of itself as a strong, stand-alone public company from its parent company this year.
Time Warner Cable also was named Operator of the Year in 2004.
