Rowan Helping Ministries 'Pass the Plate' fundraiser April 19

Rowan Helping Ministries will host “Celebrate! Pass the Plate 2008” on April 19 in the Crystal Lounge at Catawba College.
The second annual edition of the organization’s major fundraising event begins at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $50 per person, and the evening will include food, drinks and live and silent auctions of culinary events.
David Whisenant of WBTV News will serve as auctioneer.
The silent auction will include five local “chefs for hire” to prepare private meals; the live auction will feature 14 culinary experiences, each with a different theme. All the auction items are intended to be for large groups, so guests may want to join together to bid on items.
Rowan Helping Ministries will also be working to fill its 2008 “Feeding the Hungry” calendar. Individuals, groups or organizations may sponsor a breakfast for $50, a lunch for $250 or a dinner for $100 on any day of the year as a gift, a memorial or a special occasion.
“We serve three meals a day, 365 days a year,” said Dianne Scott, executive director of Rowan Helping Ministries.
“That means there are 1,095 opportunities for an individual or group to sponsor a meal. We need to fill this calendar so that we can continue to meet the basic needs of those in crisis in Rowan County,” she said.
Reservations are required to attend the fundraiser. To make a reservation, contact Tina Coble at 704-637-6838 or tcoble@rhmmail.org.
Rowan Helping Ministries is a nonprofit organization providing shelter, food, clothing and financial assistance to nearly 400 men, women and children each day.
