Rowan-Cabarrus Community College set a record for grant funding in the 2007-2008 fiscal year.
From July 1, 2007 to June 30, 2008, the college received 19 grants totaling $1.8 million.
The grant money paid for radiography equipment and laboratory renovations, software and equipment for nursing programs, student scholarship programs, biotechnology workshops for high school teachers, a stop-smoking program and career and technical education assistance.
Approximately 35 faculty and staff members worked on grant-writing projects during the year.
Since Rowan-Cabarrus created an office of grants development in November 2005, the college has received 47 grants of more than $2.43 million.
“It’s rewarding to see the difference the Office of Grants Development has made at the college in just 21/2 years,” said Daphne Lewis, the college’s director of grants development. “It’s clear from our success thus far รณ RCCC has a number of talented faculty and staff members with great ideas for enhancing our programs and services.
“I’m thrilled to be part of such an exciting team effort.”
Rowan-Cabarrus offers associate degrees in about 40 programs and also provides diploma and certificate programs in workforce training, continuing education and basic skills education.
The college annually provides more than 2,000 course offerings, serving an overall enrollment of about 20,000 adult students.
