Rockwell Community Association plans to dedicate this year’s “Saturday in the Park” to raise money to honor the memory of two Salisbury firefighters killed in the line of duty in March.
The event will be June 21. This year, organizers decided to donate all proceeds for creation of a scholarship fund for the children of Salisbury firefighters, according to Ann McManus, president of the Rockwell Community Association. Saturday in the Park is a collaborative effort of the Rockwell Lion’s Club, Rockwell Civitan Club and Rockwell’s Women’s Club.
The event offers free entertainment, including the Piedmont Primetime Community Band at 5 p.m. At 6, Uncle George the Magician will show his tricks. And at 7, Michael Thomas will close the event with a tribute to Elvis.
Donations from the business community include a bounce house for the children, courtesy of the East Rowan YMCA, and great door prizes from local businesses.
Each fall, the Community Association holds monthly dinner meetings on the third Monday of each month at 6 p.m. at the Rockwell Community Building behind the Police Station.
