With recent approval from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, Rowan-Cabarrus Community College will make its Cabarrus Business and Technology Center a full-service campus and offer complete degree programs at the Concord facility.
RCCC partnered with Cabarrus County to open the center in 2006. Since then, the college has used the facility to offer a variety of courses and seminar programs and its one-year diploma program in air conditioning, heating and refrigeration.
With association approval, the college will now expand its offerings at the center to include most, if not all, classes in selected one- and two-year degree programs. RCCC also can make the center a full-service campus location by adding additional services and amenities, such as business office services.
With the move to a third, full-service campus, RCCC can request additional funding from the N.C. Community College System.
“This is great news for the college and our students,” said Richard Brownell, RCCC president. “The college now has greater flexibility in delivering its programs. Many of our students will travel less as they take more courses in a single location. At the same time, the college can always use additional state funding to help with operational expenses.”
The center will house multiple programs, including information systems security, medical office administration, networking technology, office systems technology, web technologies and the real estate certificate program. The college also is in the process of creating a new, two-year associate degree program in air conditioning, heating and refrigeration. Once that program is established, RCCC will offer it exclusively, with the one-year diploma program, at the center.
RCCC also offers the BioWork course at the center, which is at 660 Concord Parkway N., Concord, the former site of the Cabarrus County Schools central offices.
