Staff report
Rowan County commissioners will conduct a public hearing today concerning revamped language dealing with adult businesses.
Commissioners will meet at 4 p.m. today. There is no set time for the hearing, but it is in the earlier part of the agenda.
A committee of the Planning Board reviewed the county’s current ordinance during several meetings with the full Planning Board recommending changes.
Much of the new text deals with adding specific definitions to clarify various terms. Some of the language is graphic.
The new text also proposes an increase in separation between adult businesses and homes, churches, parks, daycares and other adult businesses.
Currently, the spacing requirement is one-quarter of a mile. If the changes are approved, the new spacing will be one-half mile.
In addition, Commissioner Jim Sides has made some additional recommendations for additional restrictions.
The Board of Commissioners meet in the J. Newton Cohen Sr. Meeting Room, County Administrative Offices Building, 130 W. Innes St.
