Political notebook – 13,000 have already cast their ballots

The election is nine days away and 13,000 voters have already cast ballots in Rowan County.
Of those voting, 6,181 were registered Democrats, 4,736 Republican and 2,057 unaffiliated.
Nancy Evans, elections director, said the early voting is continuing at a good pace.
Early voting will continue through Nov. 1 at Elections Office and libraries.
Evans said the 13,000 is more than have voted in some countywide primaries in recent years.

The number of unaffiliated voters in Rowan County has increased substantially since the 2004 General Election.
In 2004, a total of 15,105 voters were registered unaffiliated. As of Thursday, unaffiliated totals 19,300, an increase of 4,195.
Democrats gained 1,669 during the same period. There are 33,084 registered Democrats now, compared to 31,686 in 2004.
Republicans also gained, increasing by 1206 from 35,870 to 37,084.
The county also has 21 registered Libertarians.
