Police, SBI arrest two on drug charges during vehicle stop

Salisbury Police investigators along with agents from the N.C. State Bureau of Investigation conducted a vehicle stop Thursday in connection with a month-long drug investigation. Investigators arrested two men and seized two pounds of marijuana and cash.
Investigators pulled over a 1998 Chevrolet pickup driven by Marshall Hopkins Beard, 30, of 8618 Gruenewald Lane, Charlotte, and his passenger, James Gilmer Pope III, 33, of 207 N. Franklin St., China Grove, at the intersection of South Main Street and Jake Alexander Boulevard.
A search of the vehicle uncovered 2 pounds of marijuana along with $2,890. Both men were charged with possession with the intent to sell and deliver a schedule VI (marijuana).
Beard was also charged with maintaining a vehicle for the distribution of controlled substances. Both men were placed in the Rowan County Detention Center under $10,000 bond. They have since been released.
