Salisbury Police charged Herman Chawlk Jr., 48, whose address was given as the streets of Salisbury, with robbing a man and hitting him with a metal pipe Saturday.
Chawlk is charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon and assault with a dangerous weapon inflicting serious injury.
Police say he robbed and struck James Allen Gillespie of 602 E. Lafayette St. with a 15- to 18-inch pipe that was 2 inches in diameter.
Chawlk was placed under $5,000 bond. His first court appearance will be today.
