Staff report
A Cleveland man has been charged with injuring a 1-year-old boy Tuesday night by firing a shotgun into a Jeep Cherokee.
Corey Mark Kloszewski, 21, of 2245 Steele Road, has been charged in the incident which authorities described as a domestic dispute.
The child suffered an abrasion to the head and flesh wound to the arm. He was treated at Iredell Memorial Hospital and released Tuesday night.
The shooting occurred around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Capt. John Sifford of the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office said Teresa Rowland, of Gold Hill, was driving the Jeep Cherokee and stopped at Kloszewski’s house to pick up her sister, Crystal Rowland.
Sifford said Crystal Rowland is Kloszewski’s girlfriend.
Kloszewski came outside with a shotgun and fired twice at the Jeep, which had three passengers including the child, Sifford said.
Teresa Rowland drove away from the Steele Road house and called 911 for assistance. She stopped at 5485 Chenault Road, where the Rowan-Iredell Fire Department, EMS and sheriff’s officers responded.
Sifford said shotgun-blast patterns were clearly visible on the Jeep, both the metal and glass.
The Rowan County Department of Social Services placed the child with an uncle pending completion of an investigation.
Sifford declined to say what reason Kloszewski gave for firing into the vehicle.
“Obviously it wasn’t a good decision,” he said.
Kloszewski is charged with discharging a firearm into occupied property. He remained in the Rowan County Detention Center under a $50,000 secured bond Wednesday evening.
