Darryl Corriher and Tom Hall of China Grove placed second in the annual Soybean Yield Contest sponsored by the N.C. Soybean Producers Association.
Corriher and Hall, who have won past awards for soybean production, produced the second highest yield of 81.6 bushels per acre.
Phil and Mike McLain of Statesville were the winners, establishing a new state record soybean yield of 92.9 bushels per acre.
The state contest is based on yield from a measured, verified 3-acre plot. The previous record for the highest yield was 92.1 bushels per acre, achieved by Cabell Early of Guilford County in 1994.
The winners were recognized Jan. 18 at the Soybean Producers Association’s 40th annual meeting at New Bern.
