Rowan Helping Ministries will be serving a traditional Thanksgiving meal beginning at noon Thursday.
Located at 226 N. Long St., the meal is open to anyone. Dianne Scott, executive director, said the soup kitchen has been averaging 144 people a day at lunch.
The Open Door Outreach Ministry will be preparing and serving the holiday meal.
Thanksgiving dinner will be served to homeless people staying in the shelter. Scott said the Queen City Divas and sisters Roberta Workman and Myra Stallings and their daughters will be checking in people, preparing the meal, washing clothes and providing supervision for the shelter.

Captain D’s restaurant in Salisbury will also prepare lunch for the homeless on Thanksgiving Day.
The Captain D’s staff, led by Tom Knudsen and Robin Black, will open the restaurant at 707 E. Innes St. from 11 a.m to 2 p.m. to serve a free meal for individuals and families in need. The restaurant is otherwise not open on the holiday.
Knudsen said he’ll close promptly at 2 p.m. so his employees can enjoy Thanksgiving at their own homes.
Last year, Captain D’s fed a turkey dinner to 43 people. Expecting an even bigger crowd this year, Knudsen and others have been seeking contributions for the Thanksgiving dinner for several months, raising about $300.
Contact Black or Knudsen at 704-637-7929 for more information.
