RALEIGH (AP) ó North Carolina Gov. Beverly Perdue followed through on campaign pledges on her first weekday in office, saying citizens demand accountability in state government.
The new governor on Monday signed some executive orders and directives in front of reporters in her new office. She was sworn in as governor Saturday.
The orders seek to shift political influence away from the Board of Transportation and to form a committee that would recommend ways to improve government.
The ěFirst Day of Changeî directives also include the creation of an endowment that would give money to gubernatorial candidates starting in 2012.
Perdue will be on hand later Monday to see her 10 Cabinet appointees sworn into office.
